Carpe Diem Beach Club in Hvar – Complete Guide to Visiting

Carpe Diem Beach Club is by far the best beach club on Hvar Island. An outpost of the star-studded Carpe Diem Bar on mainland Hvar, Carpe Diem Beach Club is actually located on a tiny island called Marinkovac, which is around a 10-minute boat ride from Hvar Town.

All About Carpe Diem Beach Club In Hvar

Carpe Diem Beach Club is a globally renowned hybrid of a beach and nightclub. Situated off the shores of Hvar on its own private island, this establishment has been a staple for decades, attracting locals, tourists, and A-list celebrities.

Carpe Diem vs. Carpe Diem Beach

Carpe Diem is a famous bar that opened on Hvar’s mainland in 1999. Carpe Diem Beach is an outpost of that bar, that’s located off of Hvar and you need to take a ferry or water taxi to get there.

Essential Visitor’s Info

Carpe Diem is on the mainland, and Carpe Diem Beach is just off the coast of Hvar on the nearby island of Marinkovac. In the daytime, from 9 AM – 10 PM, Carpe Diem Beach operates as a beach club where you can have brunch, go swimming, and relax in seaside cabanas. After sunset, the party starts and Carpe Diem Beach begins to turn into a nightclub. The club closes from 10 PM – 1 AM and then reopens from 1 AM – 5 AM.

If you visit in the daytime, you are in charge of your own transportation to the island. I recommend taking a ☀️ Guided Tour of the Blue Cave that includes a visit to Carpe Diem Beach.

If you visit the beach club during the daytime they charge no admission fee, and if you visit at night the price is 300 Kuna ($40) but it includes free ferries to and from Hvar mainland.

How To Get To Carpe Diem Beach

Since Carpe Diem Beach isn’t located on the mainland, you need to take a boat to get there.

🌅 Visiting During the Day: If you want to visit Carpe Diem Beach during the daytime, you need to arrange your own transportation there. A water taxi to Carpe Diem Beach is 75 Kuna ($10) round trip, you can easily book one from Hvar town center.

🚢 How to Buy Tickets: You can buy your tickets in front of Mlinar bakery, and boats depart every 20 minutes. The name of the route will be called “Stipanska”.

🌌 Visiting at Night: At night when Carpe Diem reopens as a nightclub, they provide their own ferry boat to and from the mainland, and it’s included in your price of admission. Night-time boarts to Carpe Diem Beach depart from in front of Carpe Diem Bar on the mainland from midnight to 5 a.m.

Carpe Diem Beach Scams to Avoid!

Ok so while I had a very pleasant time visiting Carpe Diem Beach Club in Hvar, I have to mention the scams and issues some partygoers have there because there are a ton of reports online about it.

🚩 Fake Free Boat – Carpe Diem Beach charges an entrance fee at night when it goes from beach club to night club. The entrance fee is supposed to include a round-trip water taxi from mainland Hvar.

There have been reports online that 3rd party water taxis line up outside Carpe Diem and pretend to be the shuttle, and then shake drunk tourists down for money in the middle of the sea – Don’t fall for it!

🚩 Shake Down for Tips – There are a ton of stories online from partygoers who claim the staff at Carpe Diem Beach harassed them for large cash tips and even claimed that they don’t get paid by the club!

🚩 Watered Down Drinks – People claim the drinks at Carpe Diem have little alcohol in them. I feel like this is a common complaint at many nightclubs, but it sucks when you’re paying $15 for a drink!

🚩 Count Your Change! Carpe Diem only accepts cash up until a minimum spend is met (it seems to change all the time). There are lots of reports of the staff shortchanging customers, especially if they’ve been drinking.

Carpe Diem Beach: Pros & Cons

Cons

❌ Lots of scams to watch out for! Reports of being harassed for tips and short-changed by staff are common. ❌ Cash-only, up until a certain spend, which is uncommon for a luxury destination. ❌ You need to take a boat to get there from the mainland, so it’s not that convenient. ❌ VERY pricey!

Pros

✔️ PRIVATE beach!!!  ✔️ Taking a water taxi to the club adds to the experience of visiting. ✔️ BEST photo spots on Hvar! ✔️ Celebrity hot spot! Celebrities like Jay-Z and Prince Harry have been spotted at Carpe Diem.

Do You Need To Book In Advance To Visit Carpe Diem Beach?

You don’t have to book Carpe Diem in advance for general admission. If you want VIP, tables, bottle service, etc you need to try and book ahead – and it’s not always guaranteed since Carpe Diem is a celeb hotspot. If you want a cabana at the beach club, it’s also recommended you book ahead of time, but not always necessary.

Does Carpe Diem Have A Dress Code?

Lots of people dress up, but there’s no official dress code. In the daytime everyone is in casual beach ware and come nightfall it’s not that much different. Carpe Diem isn’t a nightclub that has a line out the door and a bouncer inspecting each outfit upon entry, so as long as you’re clothed and not looking like a total beach bum you shouldn’t have a hard time!
